A Sandwich man who had hired a female escort online found himself being threatened by a purported Mexican cartel after he attempted to cancel the escort services. On MondayJune 28, a man walked into the police station at AM to report the incident.
He told police that he had been looking at pornography on his phone the Saturday and had wound up on a website for an escort.
He began texting with an escort and attempted to purchase her services with cash, but she told him that Venmo would be required. The following day, he received a phone call from the he had been texting with the night before.
On the other end was a man who knew his name, which made the Sandwich man nervous, so he hung up. He then received text messages from the claiming to be from a Mexican cartel, along with graphic images of severed body parts.
The texter was demanding payment for the canceled escort agreement. The man told police that he was concerned because he had given the escort his home address, and was also worried that his wife was going to find out he had attempted to order an escort. Police advised him that the texts were a scam and that he should contact police again if the texted him any further.
